About John Cartmell, MS

John W. Cartmell was born and raised in Pasco, Washington. He has been a Certified Nutritionist since 2004, receiving a Master of Science degree in Nutrition Research from Bastyr University of Natural Medicine in Kenmore, WA. He did his master's thesis on "Nutrition in Fibromyalgia".

The Diet Advisor website was founded in 1998 to help clients promote better health through improved nutrition and lifestyle. By analyzing age, weight, gender, lifestyle, diet, digestion, supplements, medications, and general health status, he identifies the client's nutritional strengths and weaknesses and provides recommendations on how best to promote optimal health through improved nutrition.

He became interested in nutrition during premed studies at the University of Washington in the early 1970s. Since then he has been an advocate of proper nutrition, seeking to better understand the balance of health and the imbalance of disease.
His interest and experience in nutrition spans over forty years during which his knowledge of nutrition helped him recover from 3 major health problems.

In 1984 he was diagnosed with leukemia and cured in 1988 by a bone marrow transplant. He credits dietary revisions during and after the transplant for his successful transplant and recovery (95% of the other transplant patients perished).

In the mid 1990s, he developed symptoms of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia, a soft tissue condition of widespread pain. He fully recovered his health after solving several digestive issues.

In 2003, diverticulitis led to bowel injury and peritonitis during an episode of heavy lifting. While reintroducing foods after surgery he discovered several food sensitivities that had contributed to his bowel inflammation. Addressing these concerns helped him to recover normal gastro-intestinal health.

With the arrival of middle age, he has successfully addressed his own issues of inflammation, acid reflux, dysphagia, maldigestion, weight gain, increases in blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, memory problems, and fatigue - increasing his overall knowledge and ability to help others.

As a Certified Nutritionist, he specializes in clinical nutrition, helping to address the specific nutritional needs of clients with acid reflux (GERD), allergies, arthritis, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), autism, autoimmune disorders, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), depression, diabetes, digestion problems, fibromyalgia, heart disease, high cholesterol, hypertension, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), insomnia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), memory problems, obesity, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), age-related degenerative disease, and other chronic conditions of ill health.

He sees clients at his office in Redmond, WA, and also does phone consultations nationwide and worldwide at no extra charge.

He has been a public speaker for area service clubs since 2006 and has published papers and letters on health and nutrition in several professional journals. His book, Fibromyalgia, a Nutritional Approach to Prevention, Treatment and Cure, was published in digital form in 2008 and is available on Amazon.com.
